Rethink Energy Trading.

We call it EnergyTech!

At InCommodities, we are rethinking how technology shapes the future of energy trading. We are looking for an ambitious ML engineer to make our forecasts sharper, more robust, and closer to real market behaviour.

No prior knowledge of energy markets required - we will teach you everything. What matters is that you are curious about how they work and want to put your skills to use where the feedback is immediate and the impact is real.

What you'll do:

  • Improve and extend production ML models forecasting JEPX prices, system imbalance, and supply/demand fundamentals for Japan's power market.
  • Work hands-on with rich, real-world datasets including weather, grid demand, and market price signals, covering feature engineering, model selection, validation, and deployment.
  • Partner closely with quants and traders who bring the domain knowledge and define what better looks like. Your focus is the modelling.
  • Collaborate with our TECH team on ML infrastructure, covering experiment tracking, model versioning, and pipeline integration into our Python stack on Kubernetes.
  • Monitor live model performance, identify drift and degradation early, and iterate quickly when market conditions shift.
  • Run structured experiments: document what you tried, why, and what you learned. Reproducibility is non-negotiable.
  • Stay on top of current AI tooling and research new developments in ML and AI. Evaluate what is useful, cut what is not, and apply it as a force multiplier for the trading team’s workflows, analysis, and decision-making.

Your team

This role sits within Japan trading desk. Your priorities are shaped by market opportunities, and success is measured by the team's success. When you join, you become part of a group that is genuinely building the energy trading company of tomorrow - with the technology to match. You will work directly alongside traders, quantitative researchers, and engineers who all have a stake in what gets built. The quants and traders bring the market depth so you are never navigating the domain alone, and the tech team works with you to keep the platform lean, modern, and built right.

We’re part of a global community rethinking how technology and energy meet - with offices in Denmark, the US, and now across APAC (Singapore, Tokyo, Sydney and New Zealand).

What you bring

You probably tick several of these boxes (and if not, don’t worry - curiosity goes a long way here):

  • Hands-on experience with ML in production, including models you've shipped, monitored, and maintained over time.Time-series modelling skills, including non-stationarity, seasonality, and handling real-world data irregularities.
  • Proficient in Python for data processing, modelling, and pipeline development.
  • Comfortable with MLOps fundamentals: experiment tracking, model versioning, and CI/CD integration.
  • Are self-driven and act proactively, thoroughly, and with a high sense of urgency - delivering directly on what the business needs, not just what's technically interesting.
  • Always take one for the team and expect your colleagues to do the same, naturally taking ownership of the team's success and ensuring nothing falls through the cracks.
  • Are a strong communicator in english with good interpersonal skills - but first and foremost an engineer.

What you can expect

  • A great start-up environment with clear strategy, a high degree of autonomy and flexibility to drive real impact.
  • steep learning curve in one of the most interesting and ever-changing industries.
  • flat and transparent organization that values bold thinking, calculated risk-taking and open feedback.
  • Great colleagues who engage socially and excel professionally.
  • unique company culture where we live our values: Honesty, Transparency, and Rethink, where we openly admit mistakes to get better every day and embrace the chance to learn something new.
  • Flexible working, and time off that lets you recharge.
  • Paid lunch, snacks, and a lot of cool merch.

Redy to Rethink Energy Trading?

If this sounds like you, let’s talk. We’re not your average trading company - and this isn’t your average compliance role.

We’re InCommodities Asia-Pacific – and we’re here to rethink energy trading across one of the world’s most dynamic regions.

We're specializing in power trading and asset optimization, and with offices in Tokyo, Singapore, Sydney and Auckland we operate across diverse markets in the region.
Our edge is EnergyTech. We combine market know-how with algorithms, data, and platforms to trade smarter, optimize faster, and scale impact 24/7/365. That's how we balance energy markets and help ensure efficient, secure, and resilient supply across the region.

Established as an autonomous organization in 2024, we’re growing fast and act with the mindset of a startup. Our culture is entrepreneurial, flat, and hands-on. You’ll get autonomy and trust from day one – and the responsibility to make an impact. We value initiative over titles, thrive in change, and are building one of the most ambitious EnergyTech trading setups in Asia-Pacific.

Our culture

We value a strong social community with frequent events outside the office. The work culture is relaxed; you don’t have to abide by a dress code or a strict hierarchy, so you won’t be frustrated with too many rules, policies, or bureaucratic processes.

Our core values - honesty, transparency, and rethinking - are fundamental to how we engage with each other. Without honesty and transparency, we can't build trust, and trust among team members is the foundation of effective relationships and collaboration, ultimately for achieving better outcomes together. And as for rethinking, it’s deeply rooted in our DNA, pushing us to challenge status quo and continuously develop and innovate.

In other words, InCommodities is not your average workplace – it’s awesome.

An inclusive workplace

Our commitment to fostering an inclusive and innovative culture makes InCommodities an exciting place to grow your career. We are dedicated to creating a diverse workplace where everyone feels valued and respected.
