.NET Systems Architect – North America

Are you eager to solve complex architectural challenges in a fast-paced, energy trading company? Do you enjoy staying hands-on while also helping shape long-term technical direction of a company? If so, you might be a perfect fit for our Technology team at InCommodities – North America!

We are looking for a hands-on Systems Architect to join our growing North American tech team in Austin, Texas. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys designing scalable systems, writing clean code, and helping shape the future of a modern, high-performance trading platform.

Be part of our US growth adventure

Since 2017, our parent organization has been on a mission to rethink energy trading and organizational culture. At the heart of this lies EnergyTech - a unique fusion of energy trading and technology. In 2024, InCommodities US stood up as its own entity and is acting as a fast-growing startup within the broader InCommodities organization. This means we move quickly, iterate often, and operate with a high degree of ownership and autonomy—while benefiting from the scale and stability of our global team.

Your journey a .NET Systems Architect

You will work closely with developers, traders, and other relevant stakeholders to define and implement practical architectural solutions that balance short-term needs with long-term goals and help lay the foundation for what is next in our North American trading business. This can be from enabling physical gas trading to helping shape the next generation architecture of our ETRM platform. You will have the opportunity to influence strategic platform decisions while staying hands-on and close to the technology that powers real-time trading operations.
Your work will support the structured and maintainable evolution of our software ecosystem, aligning with both business priorities and future growth.

Responsibilities – you will:

  • Actively contribute to system design and development, writing code where necessary to set standards and establish best practices.
  • Define the architecture for our .NET-based software ecosystem, ensuring modularity, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Drive the adoption of a unified system design, establishing a well-documented architecture, fostering a systems-thinking mindset that enhances scalability, maintainability, and overall efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with traders and other business stakeholders to ensure system designs align with real-world trading and operational needs.
  • Guide DevOps and infrastructure planning, working alongside IT and cloud engineers to ensure a seamless, scalable deployment environment.
  • Provide technical mentorship to developers, ensuring knowledge sharing across the team.
  • Balance architecture decisions with implementation realities, ensuring solutions are practical, executable, and aligned with business needs.
  • Evaluate and introduce modern technologies in collaboration with the team while ensuring compatibility with existing systems and business requirements.

Qualifications – we imagine that you:

  • Have 5+ years of experience designing and building distributed systems, ideally in trading, energy, finance or similarly fast-paced domains.
  • Have deep experience with .NET technologies and understand how to structure large systems for growth
  • Design and evolve the architecture of our event driven trading systems, focusing on performance, modularity, and long-term maintainability
  • Partner with trading, analytics, and operations teams to define the technical foundations for new markets and workflows, including physical gas
  • Evaluate and guide the selection or development of our future ETRM system
  • Contribute directly to the codebase when needed — prototyping ideas, building core components, and validating architecture decisions
  • Mentor engineers and help instill strong architectural and engineering practices across the team
  • Work closely with DevOps and infrastructure teams to ensure systems are resilient and production-ready
  • Have deep expertise in system design, including microservices, event-driven architecture, and distributed systems.
  • Have a proven track record of designing and implementing large-scale enterprise applications.
Are based in or willing to relocate to Austin, Texas.

Personal skills – we expect that you:

  • Are a pragmatic problem-solver who can weigh trade-offs between reusing, refactoring, or replacing code.
  • Are execution-driven and able to move fast while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a high level of autonomy and decentralized decision-making.
  • Have great communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical colleagues.
  • Are a team player with a collaborative mindset who works well in cross-functional teams with traders, analysts, and business users.
  • Have a strong systems thinking mindset to see the big picture and break down complex problems into structured solutions.
  • Are comfortable navigating architectural tradeoffs and making decisions that balance execution with long-term flexibility
  • Enjoy staying close to the code and collaborating across teams to drive real outcomes
  • Are motivated by autonomy, ownership, and the opportunity to build systems that directly impact the business

What you can expect from us:

  • A steep learning curve and thorough onboarding program to ensure you are ready to take on your new role
  • A high level of autonomy and responsibility in a low bureaucracy, high-trust environment
  • The opportunity to architect and influence major greenfield systems, not just maintain existing ones
  • A central role in a strategically important part of the company with a clear mandate to build for the future.
  • Exceptional colleagues who are bold, honest, ambitious, and the smartest in their field
  • A unique company culture where we live up to our values: Honesty, Transparency, and Rethink and where you do not have to abide by a dress code or a strict hierarchy
  • Great events - both in the teams and in the entire organization
  • The opportunity to develop both professionally and personally

Benefits:

  • Flexible working hours and hybrid work schedule
  • Health insurance
  • 401k with employer matching
  • Parental leave including paid and unpaid options
  • Generous PTO policy and paid holidays
  • Door Dash allowance and snacks and drinks at the office
  • Internet and optional cellphone reimbursement
  • Access to office gym
