Do you want to build a high-performing asset origination business in Japan’s power market? Are you ready to use your network and market know-how to sell, structure, and close profitable, asset-linked risk management deals?

If yes, we’re growing our Japan team in Tokyo and looking for an Originator within the assets space. You’ll be highly sales-focused, supported day-to-day by another business developer/originator, and backed by our trading, quant, and legal teams.

In this role, you will drive the asset solutions franchise in Japan—creating value by leveraging InCommodities’ strengths in energy trading and technology. It’s a build phase: high ownership, clear targets, and accountability for pipeline and conversion.

We are expanding into the asset space through long-term, structured transactions aligned with market needs and our strategy. Target assets include renewables, battery storage, conventional generation, demand optimization, and balancing service agreements. Products include PPAs/offtake, floors/collars, shape and imbalance transfer, availability and capacity contracts, tolling, and revenue-share structures. We value people who turn complex exposures into simple, bankable terms—and get deals done.

The Journey

Since 2017, we’ve been rethinking energy trading and culture. A core pillar is treating data and technology as first-class citizens—our EnergyTech approach. We’ve delivered in Europe and North America, and in 2024 we expanded to APAC with offices in Singapore, Tokyo, Sydney and soon Auckland.
 

Responsibilities – you will:

• Identify, structure, and execute asset-based risk management deals in Japan’s power market
• Own the hunt: build a target list, drive outbound, qualify fast, and progress leads → term sheets → agreement → close
• Align with traders/structurers to price risk, design hedgeable payoffs, and ensure executable terms
• Cultivate and expand a network across utilities, developers, IPPs, large scale consumers (e.g., data centers), and investors
• Leverage our platform to create competitive structures (PPAs/offtake, floors/collars, imbalance transfer, tolling, BESS revenue stacks)
• Track policy/market changes to spot opportunities early and avoid mispriced risk
• Coordinate internally with trading, quantitative research, strategy, legal, and operations for smooth handover and settlement
• Represent InCommodities at market meetings and industry events to strengthen our Japan presence
• Use support effectively: partner closely with another originator/BD to scale outreach and conversion

Qualifications – we imagine that you:

• Have deal origination experience in Japan’s power market, taking structured/asset deals from lead to signature
• Bring a proven sales track record with measurable pipeline, hit rate, and P&L contribution
• Possess a strong network (utilities, developers, IPPs, large loads, funds, advisors)
• Are fluent in Japanese and English at business level; you can negotiate terms and explain risk clearly in both
• Can navigate regulatory and market complexity and translate asset exposures into bankable structures
• Understand renewables/BESS/conventional cash-flows, imbalance/balancing mechanics, and settlement basics

主な業務内容

• 日本の電力市場における発電アセットベースのリスクマネジメント取引の発掘、組成、実行
• ターゲットリスト作成、アウトバウンド営業、リードの迅速な精査から、タームシート、契約締結まで一貫して担当
• トレーダーやストラクチャラーと連携し、リスクプライシング、ヘッジ可能なペイオフ設計、実行可能条件の確保
• 電力会社、デベロッパー、IPP、大口需要家（例：データセンター）、投資家とのネットワーク拡大
• 当社プラットフォームを活用した競争力ある取引構造の設計（PPA/オフテイク、オプション、インバランスリスク移転、トーリング、BESS収益モデルなど）
• 政策・市場動向の把握による機会の早期発見および誤ったリスクプライシングの回避
• 社内各部署（トレーディング、クオンツリサーチ、戦略、リーガル、オペレーション）との連携による円滑な取引遂行

• 実績に裏付けられた営業能力（パイプライン、成約率、P&Lへの貢献）

• 日本語および英語でのビジネスレベルのコミュニケーション能力（契約交渉・リスク説明を双方の言語で対応可能）
