Turn complex ERCOT market data into insights that move decisions.
We’re looking for a Power Analyst to join us in analyzing one of the most dynamic power markets out there. You’ll work at the intersection of mathematics, data, and electricity markets, using quantitative models and large-scale datasets to understand what drives prices, congestion, generation, demand, and volatility across ERCOT.
You’ll get close to the market and turn complex system conditions into clear, data-driven insights that support forecasting, planning, and decision-making.
What you’ll do
- You’ll develop and apply mathematical and statistical models to analyze ERCOT market data, including generation, demand, prices, congestion, outages, and ancillary services
- You’ll analyze historical and real-time market data to uncover trends, relationships, anomalies, and changes in market behavior
- You’ll build forecasting models for demand, generation availability, market prices, congestion, and other relevant market variables
- You’ll apply statistics, regression, time-series analysis, probability theory, numerical methods, and optimization to evaluate power-market conditions
- You’ll develop quantitative models and algorithms to assess generation dispatch, transmission constraints, resource availability, and congestion
- You’ll run scenario, sensitivity, and what-if analyses to understand the impact of changes in load, generation, transmission availability, outages, and other market conditions
- You’ll analyze market outcomes to identify the drivers behind price volatility, congestion, scarcity conditions, and other ERCOT market events
- You’ll process and analyze large datasets using tools such as Python, SQL, C++, and Excel
- You’ll automate analytical processes, data pipelines, models, and visualizations to make our analysis faster, stronger, and more reproducible
- You’ll validate models against historical ERCOT market and system data, investigate discrepancies, and quantify uncertainty in your results
- You’ll turn complex quantitative findings into clear reports, dashboards, presentations, and actionable insights for technical and business stakeholders
- You’ll collaborate with analysts, engineers, economists, data scientists, and other colleagues to develop and challenge analytical methodologies
Your Team
You’ll work alongside colleagues who combine deep domain knowledge, analytical skills, and a strong understanding of ever-changing energy markets. It’s a collaborative setup where data, models, and market expertise come together to solve complex challenges.
Expect autonomy, fast feedback loops, and colleagues who’ll challenge your thinking while helping you develop your understanding of ERCOT and power markets. We share knowledge openly, question assumptions, and work together to turn analysis into impact.
What you bring
- You have a bachelor’s degree or higher in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computational Mathematics, Operations Research, Data Science, or a closely related quantitative discipline; a Master of Financial Engineering is preferred
- You have strong knowledge of advanced mathematics, probability and statistics, statistical inference, regression analysis, time-series analysis, and forecasting
- You have experience with mathematical modeling, numerical methods, optimization, operations research, or computational mathematics
- You have strong quantitative and analytical skills and can work confidently with large, complex datasets
- You have proficiency in one or more quantitative tools such as Python, SQL, C++, advanced Excel, statistical modeling software, optimization libraries, or data visualization tools
- You have an understanding of electricity-market analysis, power-system modeling concepts, and wholesale energy markets
- You have knowledge of ERCOT market structure and operating data
How you work
- You approach complex problems analytically and use data to get to the right answer
- You take ownership of your analysis, from selecting the methodology to validating and communicating the results
- You question assumptions – including your own – and investigate when the numbers don’t add up
- You care about precision, reliability, and the quality of your models because your work supports real decisions
- You’re curious and eager to deepen your market expertise and technical mastery
- You communicate complex quantitative findings clearly to both technical and business stakeholders
- You collaborate openly, challenge ideas constructively, and play for the team
What you can expect from us
You’ll join with a steep learning curve supported by a thorough onboarding program that sets you up for success from day one. From there, you’ll enjoy a high level of autonomy, working alongside exceptional colleagues who are bold, honest, ambitious, and among the smartest in their fields. Our culture is unique—we live our values of Honesty, Transparency, and Rethink, and we do it without rigid hierarchies or dress codes. Along the way, you’ll take part in great events, both within your team and across the organization, and you’ll have the chance to grow on both a professional and personal level.
