We are seeking a hands-on Systems Architect who will lead by doing, contributing to software development, system design and modernization efforts, in our Technology team! This is an opportunity to drive a complex technology transition, helping us decouple and modernize critical systems while maintaining performance, stability, and scalability.

Be part of our US growth adventure

At InCommodities, we are on a mission to rethink how data and technology are used in energy trading. Since our founding in 2017, we have grown rapidly into a global team of over 200 talented professionals from 22 countries. Headquartered in Aarhus, Denmark— often referred to as the Silicon Valley of energy trading— we operate with a truly global perspective, extending our activities across Europe, Asia Pacific, and North America.

In 2020, we expanded our US presence by establishing an office in Austin, Texas. Today, our North American organization covers both power and natural gas. In this role, you will be part of our Technology team who consists of 5 colleagues.

Your journey as Systems Architect

As a Systems Architect, you will be a part of the Technology team working alongside software engineers and play a key role in system design, development, and modernization efforts. This position offers an opportunity to lead and drive a technology transition, helping to update and improve critical systems while maintaining stability, performance, and scalability.

You will work closely with developers, traders, and other relevant stakeholders to define and implement practical architectural solutions that balance short-term needs with long-term goals. Some systems will need direct migration, while others may require refactoring or redesign—your role will be to guide these decisions and help manage technical debt to ensure future flexibility.

Your work will support the structured and maintainable evolution of our software ecosystem, aligning with both business priorities and future growth. This is an exciting hands-on role for you who enjoy problem-solving, modernizing legacy systems, and collaborating with teams to improve technology and workflows.

Responsibilities – you will:

  • Actively contribute to system design and development, writing code where necessary to set standards and establish best practices.
  • Define the architecture for our .NET-based software ecosystem, ensuring modularity, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Lead a pragmatic transition approach—determining which components can be moved as-is and which require refactoring or redesign to avoid future constraints.
  • Establish best practices for code quality, system modularization, and software development lifecycle, delivering robust solutions in an effort to have continuous improvement.
  • Drive the adoption of a unified system design, establishing a well-documented architecture, fostering a systems-thinking mindset that enhances scalability, maintainability, and overall efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with traders and other business stakeholders to ensure system designs align with real-world trading and operational needs.
  • Guide DevOps and infrastructure planning, working alongside IT and cloud engineers to ensure a seamless, scalable deployment environment.
  • Provide technical mentorship to developers, ensuring knowledge sharing across the team.
  • Balance architecture decisions with implementation realities, ensuring solutions are practical, executable, and aligned with business needs.
  • Evaluate and introduce modern technologies in collaboration with the team while ensuring compatibility with existing systems and business requirements.

Qualifications – we imagine that you:

  • Have 5+ years of experience as a hands-on software architect with strong skills in .NET (F#, C#, .NET Core), SQL Server and Kafka.
  • Have experience within the field of energy trading, financial services, or other high-performance, low-latency domains.
  • Are comfortable writing code daily as needed, whether to establish patterns, prototype solutions, or assist in delivery.
  • Have deep expertise in system design, including microservices, event-driven architecture, and distributed systems.
  • Have a proven track record of designing and implementing large-scale enterprise applications.
  • Are based in or willing to relocate to Austin, Texas.

Personal skills – we expect that you:

  • Are a pragmatic problem-solver who can weigh trade-offs between reusing, refactoring, or replacing code.
  • Are execution-driven and able to move fast while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a high level of autonomy and decentralized decision-making.
  • Have great communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical colleagues.
  • Are a team player with a collaborative mindset who works well in cross-functional teams with traders, analysts, and business users.
  • Have a strong systems thinking mindset to see the big picture and break down complex problems into structured solutions.

What you can expect from us:

  • A steep learning curve and thorough onboarding program to ensure you are ready to take on your new role.
