Are you eager to advance your analytical, quantitative, and programming skills while gaining hands-on experience in energy trading? Then, you might be who we are looking for!

We are seeking a Quantitative Risk Engineer to join our small, dedicated Risk team. The team's primary purpose is to maintain a solid risk management framework that, through extensive market knowledge, risk monitoring, and tool automation, ensures InCommodities is equipped to take the best possible positions in the markets.

You will be working on diverse projects within risk management. This ranges from complex coding projects, where you will be responsible for building and optimizing our tools, to quantifying and assessing our market, credit, liquidity, and operational risk, using state-of-the-art modeling techniques. We expect you to thrive in complex coding tasks, developing code to extract, compute, and visualize large volumes of complex data.

Your journey as a Quantitative Risk Engineer

In this role, you have a unique chance to apply your academic skills in a professional setting where your work will directly impact our way of monitoring risk. Cross-team collaboration is crucial in our ongoing mission to ensure that our risk framework always identifies and captures risk in the best possible way. Therefore, you will work closely with multiple teams across our organization, from trading teams to IT teams. You will advance your programming skills, build solid domain knowledge, and gain crucial insight and experience by working with some of the brightest minds in the energy trading industry.

We will ensure you are ready to take on your new role by giving you the best possible introduction to your team, our business, and our organization. You will participate in an onboarding program with a group of new colleagues who will join at the same time as you.

During your onboarding, you will be introduced to your tasks, role, and responsibilities so you can quickly manage your own projects and tasks. A high degree of autonomy will be provided and expected from the beginning of your role, as this is one of the cornerstones of our team and organization. But you can of course always count on your skilled colleagues for sparring and support to reach your full potential in your role. Further responsibility will be added continuously as you grow within your role.

Responsibilities – you will:

  • Maintain existing and developing new tools, preferably using Python
  • Understand and operate within our risk mandate setup across all trading activities to ensure you can act as a sparring partner
  • Obtain an understanding of the markets, commodities, and strategies driving gross profit
  • Take ownership and autonomy on quantitative risk projects
  • Take part in identifying potential risks when entering new markets
  • Participate in evaluations of the entire risk framework together with the team to ensure best practice risk overviews and procedures are implemented
  • Handle various day-to-day risk operations depending on current market situations

Qualifications – we imagine that you:

  • Have a background in economics, finance, mathematics, engineering, computer science or similar
  • Are fluent in English, both written and verbal
  • Have strong mathematical and statistical skills
  • Are eager to work with data mining and data analysis
  • Are experienced within or have basic knowledge of programming languages, preferably Python and SQL

Personal skills – we expect that you:

  • Have an analytic and logical mindset
  • Are detail-oriented, systematic, and quality-conscious
  • Are curious and open to different tasks and challenges
  • See opportunities with a can-do attitude where others see obstacles

What you can expect from us:

  • A steep learning curve and thorough onboarding program to ensure you're ready to take on your new role
  • You will be part of an experienced team and learn from the best. You will get guidance and close sparring with senior profiles when needed
  • The opportunity to develop both professionally and personally
  • A bunch of great events - both in the team and in the entire organization
  • A unique company culture where we live up to our values: Honesty, Transparency, and Rethink and where you don't have to abide by a dress code or a strict hierarchy so that you won't be frustrated with too many rules, policies, or bureaucratic processes

We’re InCommodities: One of the fastest growing trading companies in the world. The energy market is transitioning away from fossil fuels to renewable energy, and we take part in making that happen!

At InCommodities, we support the transition by acting as the middleman between sellers and buyers of power and gas - we transport energy across borders where it’s needed, or we store it and sell it later, providing a vital function in the value chain from production to consumption. InCommodities’ business and decision-making are driven by a deep understanding of the energy markets and based on quantitative analysis and rethinking what we do.

Making InCommodities outstanding requires all types of people with different personalities, backgrounds, and approaches to solving different tasks and projects. But one thing connects us: we're fuelled by new ideas and rethinking the status quo.

Our Culture

We value a strong social culture with a high frequency of employee events outside the office. We want to win and be the best in class – therefore, you'll be surrounded by like-minded people who are bold, honest, ambitious, and the smartest in their field, and who root for one another, as we value a genuine sense of team spirit.

To help each other grow, we use honest and constructive feedback and sparring within and across teams. Personality and cultural fit are important to us because we want you to be happy here. The work culture is relaxed; you don’t have to abide by a dress code or a strict hierarchy, so you won’t be frustrated with too many rules, policies, or bureaucratic processes.

In other words, InCommodities is not your average workplace – it’s awesome.
